  • Listening to make sure you are heard – Valuations are often completed in contentious situations.  I make sure all parties in the engagement are heard. I will listen to your input and work through any concerns you have before providing an opinion.
    • Fees matter – You want to get the best value for your money. That’s why I have transparent fees and provide no-obligations quotes.  Compare our prices to others and see for yourself.

  • How do I stay efficient? I’m a sole practitioner focused on my area of expertise, and I work 100% remotely.  This translates into lower overhead costs.  I pass on these savings to my clients.  I’m 100% focused on practicing in my area of expertise and delivering value that exceeds my fees.

Pricing: FAQs

This is likely related to my hourly rate, which may be different than other professionals.  This does not impact the quality of the work performed.  I am a seasoned valuation expert dedicated to providing a great experience to my clients by engaging with all parties involved and providing a fair, independent conclusion that will allow you to move forward.

I’m a sole practitioner that does not maintain an office and works remotely. Thus, my overhead is lower than some other practitioners. I believe in sharing those savings with my clients.

No. The above are illustrative examples of the typical cost of a straight-forward engagement. More complex situations require more time to understand and analyze. The best way to understand the approximate cost is to discuss it with me. I’m happy to confidentially discuss the situation and provide a no-obligations quote. You can then decide how you would like to proceed.

Yes, the same rate of $250/hour applies for the other services outlined above. Please contact me and I can provide a no-obligations quote based on the nature of the engagement.

It’s best to discuss the particulars of complex ownership structures in order to get an accurate quote. Often there are efficiencies in valuing several related businesses together and/or complete a Guideline income calculation in conjunction with a valuation. I’m happy to discuss ways to keep the engagement as efficient as possible.

Hi, I'm Evan.

Professional background

2010
Manager - Vancouver 2010 Olympics

I was an accounting manager in the Olympic bus system.  Our team did what it took to get people where they needed to go.  This meant driving a route in Richmond for a day to staging and supervising the busses for the opening and closing ceremonies (in addition to accounting for the movement of over a thousand busses everyday).

2011 - 2016
Manager - Grant Thornton LLP

I worked in the audit and advisory departments starting as an associate and got a breadth of experience.  I worked with clients ranging from public companies and broker-dealers to family businesses.  Being in advisory, I was also able to get exposure to a wide variety of engagements from valuations and transaction advisory to forensic accounting and insolvency files.  Having such broad experience provides the foundation to approaching valuation with a holistic view.

2014 - 2018
President and Co-founder - Tracument Solutions Inc.

I founded Tracument with two partners with the goal of using technology to improve the processes in personal injury litigation.  We launched our first product within a year of founding the company and succeeded in substantially growing the company in the four years I was involved.  I was responsible for strategic decisions, finances, and sales in Western Canada.

2016 - 2019
Manager - The Coast Group LLP/Crowe Mackay LLP

I got back to my small town roots practicing at The Coast Group.  I served family businesses completing valuation, tax compliance and planning, and assurance engagements.

2017 - 2021
Senior Manager - Daum Valuation and Financial Services Ltd.
I've completed a variety of valuation engagements for matrimonial disputes, shareholder disputes, and tax reorganizations.  I've also completed litigation support engagements, including forensic investigations, loss quantifications, and guideline income calculations.
2021 - Present
Asset 1
Founder - Valuations.ca
I founded Valuations.ca with the commitment to provide understandable, timely valuation services at competitive prices.

I am a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA).

Personally...

I grew up in small town BC, earned my stripes in Vancouver, and have since explored many parts of the world.  I now live part of the year in Canada and part of the year in Thailand.

I love to ride anything with two wheels.  When I’m not working, I normally exploring new areas and towns on motorcycle or mountain bike or playing with my niece and nephew.

I’ve been interested in business and finance since I first asked my mom why the bank was paying me to store my money (interest rates were higher back then).  I started investing as a teen and continue to be fascinated by the global financial markets.

Today, valuation gives me the opportunity to do something I enjoy to help others.  Most of the time when a valuation (or another litigation support service) is needed, it’s a difficult, contentious situation.  I know how hard owners work to build their businesses and the sacrifice spouses and family make to support that vision.  Having a fair, objective, understandable opinion can be critical in allowing parties to move forward.  Whether it’s a simple tax transaction, a contentious divorce, or a shareholder dispute, I am thankful to be able to assist in bringing a resolution to the situation and let parties get back to focusing on what’s most important to them.
